St. David’s Episcopal Church is a two-story stucco and masonry church located in downtown Austin, Texas. The church was originally constructed in 1855, before Austin’s downtown was established, and was surrounded by fields. Multiple additions to the church were constructed over time, including an early tower added to the south façade and more modern additions to the east.
Ford Powell Carson Architects & Planners was engaged by the Church to design phased restoration and renovations to the buildings, Phase 1 of which included restoration of the historic church and sanctuary, including exterior stucco and masonry repairs as well as restoration of stained-glass windows and interior plaster and decorative finishes.
APC provided technical review of the exterior enclosure elements, including the roofing, and developed a design for roof repair and replacement to address water infiltration and distress.
During construction by SpawGlass General Contractors, APC reviewed the progress of roof-related work and provided technical consulting to address additional uncovered conditions.
The project was successfully completed in 2023 and received an award of recognition from Preservation Austin.
