The Grimes County Courthouse is an Edwardian-Victorian style brick masonry structure constructed in 1894. The Courthouse is sited on one of seven hills in Anderson, Texas, and features a central wood-framed cupola with lights visible from miles on all sides. Numerous historical events occurred in and around the Courthouse, and it was restored in 2002 through the Texas Historical Commission’s Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.

The Courthouse sustained significant water infiltration, structural, and finish damage from Hurricane Harvey in August 2017. APC partnered with Komatsu Architecture to perform architectural and engineering assessment, design, and construction administration services to address the water infiltration and structural distress.

We performed a technical review of the exterior roof, masonry, glazing, and structural elements and developed a comprehensive repair plan aimed at addressing water infiltration and improving durability of the enclosure for years to come.

Premier Commercial Group was selected by Grimes County and served as the General Contractor for the repairs, successfully addressing roof leakage while avoiding full replacement, repointing 100 percent of the masonry façade, weather-proofing the windows and doors, repairing the cupola structure and louvers to resist future storm events, and restoring interior finishes. The project was completed in late 2020.
