The Commodore Perry Estate is a luxury boutique hotel complex in Austin, Texas managed by Auberge Resorts. The estate originally consisted of a 1928 Italianate manor, built for Commodore Edgar and Lutie Perry, and was expanded over time from the original residence to serve as St. Mary’s Academy in 1947 and multiple schools thereafter.
The project included restoration of the existing mansion and chapel as well as construction of a new restaurant and three-story hotel with open courtyard spaces. A key feature of the restaurant is a mass stone masonry wall that extends around a portion of the site for privacy and required detailed waterproofing study to integrate with the new building.
Acton Partners’ role on the project consisted of evaluating the condition of the existing historic building enclosures, development of a repair scope for distress conditions, review of restoration and new construction design drawings, and extensive involvement during construction to address underlying conditions at existing structures and review in-progress detailing at new buildings. We consulted for the ownership group alongside the design team- Clayton & Little Architects and Moule & Polyzoides- and Rogers O’Brien Construction.
The project was successfully completed and opened to guests in mid-2020.
